FAQs For Expiring Venture X Mega Offer

- Mar 9, 2022 Credit Card Info0 comments

Update: The offer is dead

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card took the credit card industry by storm when it was first released this past November.

The great welcome offer of 100,000 points after spending $10,000 within the first 6 months, plus a $200 statement credit for vacation rentals (booked within the first year), is expiring in just a few days (March 14th!).

Here are answers for some popular FAQS about the card.

How much credit do I need to get approved?

In my experience, I’m seeing Capital One looking for about 2 years credit history and a credit score of 740 or higher. You can check out our Credit Card Database for many data points on approvals here.

Is there any way to waive the annual fee?

The Venture X card has a $395 annual fee which is not waived the first year. However, you could get the Venture X annual fee erased flat out with the $300 travel credit that could be used when booking any travel on Capital One Travel (Capital One Travel is probably the best place to book airfare, hotels, etc, as we’ll explain in a moment). Plus you get 10,000 points every anniversary year which is worth a minimum of  $100 on Capital One Travel. Those 2 credits alone can pay off the $395 annual fee in full.

Anyone spending at least $400 on travel, which includes airfare, hotels, car rentals, etc, which encompasses a lot of us, can ultimately get the full annual fee erased with just those 2 aforementioned credits ($300 on Capital One Travel and 10,000 anniversary points).

On top of that, you’ll still be getting lounge access, Hertz President’s Circle status, and all other benefits that come along with the Venture X card.

Which credit bureau does Capital One pull?

Capital One will pull your credit from all three credit bureaus; Experian, Transunion, and Equifax. You are able to freeze one of the credit bureaus and still get approved for the card (the credit bureau you freeze cannot be Transunion).

Is Capital One approving nice limits?

We’re seeing very good approval statistics through our Credit Card Database. Close to 80% of applicants were approved for the card. Many people got credit limits of $20,000 / $30,000! Plus, many people were able to double their credit limit by requesting a credit limit increase even right after they got approved for the card.

You can check out all the approvals for the Venture X card here.

Is Capital One Travel similar to Expedia?

Yes. You can book everything from airfare, hotels, car rentals, and more for competitive prices (some claim they even find better pricing on Capital One Travel than on Expedia).

The travel portal also offers a whole lot of great perks not found anywhere else, including:

  • Predictive booking feature: It lets you know when it’s the best time to book
  • Price drop protection: If you use the predictive booking feature but later find that the price is cheaper on a different day then Capital One will match the price
  • Price freeze: This allows you to freeze a price and book up to 14 days later
  • Price match guarantee: Capital One will match any price you find anywhere else within 24 hours of booking
  • Cancel at any time for a small fee: This feature will allow you to cancel your flights even on non refundable tickets for a small upfront fee. The feature is not yet available but will be coming soon

Can I downgrade the card?

You can downgrade the card to either the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card ($95) or the  Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card ($0).

But please note that downgrades are not always available. They can be targeted for each account and some cardholders are not able to downgrade their Capital One credit cards. So with Capital One you are never guaranteed that a downgrade will be possible.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that in order to not be charged the annual fee you need to downgrade the card 60 days before the card anniversary. So make sure to remember to downgrade 60 days before the first year is up.

Can I get approved even if I already have two Capital One cards?

Many people are reporting getting approved even if they already have two Capital One cards open (it seems that for the Venture X card the max two-cards rule is not being enforced).

Can I get approved even if I recently got approved for another Capital One card?

I have seen many reports of people getting approved for the Capital One Spark Cash Plus even if they recently applied for the  Venture X. But I have also seen reports of people getting declined for the second card due to the first card approval. So I believe this question does not have a definite answer. Sometimes they will approve and sometimes they will decline.

If I apply for two Capital One cards will they pull my credit twice?

Credit inquiries for same-day Capital One applications will be combined. So as long as you apply for both cards the same day, the inquiries will be combined.

Can I get my credit card numbers immediately after approval?

Your new card will be available in your Capital One app immediately after you get approved (you might need the 3 digit security code on the back of your card to access it, which means you must wait for your physical card to arrive). Physical Capital One credit cards usually cannot be expedited, I wonder if the same will be with this new luxury card.

How can I check the application status?

You can  check your application status by calling 1 800 903 9177 or 1 877 277 5901.

If I was declined can I have the application reconsidered?

If declined, you can call 1 800 625 7866 to be reconsidered (Capital One will usually only reconsider an application due to application error, for example, if you entered the wrong social security number or the wrong income, etc.).

Does Capital One have good airline and hotel partners?
