Every time you apply for a credit card, the credit card insurer will make a hard credit inquiry and pull your credit report. Credit inquiries can affect your credit score for up to 12 months and stay on your credit report for up to 24 months.
But if you apply for more than one credit card from the same credit card insurer within the same day, then sometimes the credit inquiries will be combined. Some suggest that the credit bureaus combine them (as duplicate inquiries). But some claim that it is the credit card insurer that only pulls your credit report once per day, as every inquiry costs them money. In either case, here in this post, I will share some data points on when credit inquiries are being combined.
Amex credit inquiries will be combined for the same-day applications, as long as they are both approved on the same day. (some data points suggest this not working. If you have any data points please share them in the comments).
Please note, though, that Amex will not approve you for two personal or two business credit cards within the same day. So, to take advantage of this, you will need to apply for one personal card and one business card. It’s also possible to get approved for a charge card the same day as a credit card. Therefore, you can apply for one credit card and then a charge card (like the Amex Platinum or Amex Gold) the same day.
Please note: For some existing Amex credit cardholders, Amex will not do a hard credit pull when applying for a new credit card at any time.

Applications for all Personal Chase cards within the same day will result in only one credit inquiry. Also, applications for all Chase Business cards with in the same day will result in only one credit inquiry. But, applications for Personal and Business cards, will not combine.
There are data points that suggest that Chase credit inquiries are not combining even for two Personal or two Business cards done the same day.
Applications for all Personal Citi credit cards will be combined; also, applications for all Citi Business cards will be combined. Personal and business cards will not be combined.
