Two mega offers are expiring on March 14th, the Capital One Spark Plus and the Venture X.
Many people are wondering which one of the two cards they should get. Although some people have successfully gotten approved for both, others have been getting declined for the second card.
In this post, I’ll help you decide which one of the cards you should try first. After getting approved for the first, you can give it a shot and try the second one as well.
Following are the key differences between the two cards.
Welcome bonuses
The welcome bonus on the Spark Plus is higher than the welcome bonus on the Venture X.
The Spark Plus earns up to a $3,000 bonus (earn $500 after spending $5,000 within the first 3 months. Plus, earn an additional $2,500 after spending a total of $50,000 within the first 6 months).
It is a lot higher than the bonus on the Venture X card which earns 100,000 points after spending $10,000 within the first 6 months (plus get a $200 statement credit for vacation rentals like Airbnb, VRBO, etc., booked within the first year).
In addition, the Capital One Spark Plus points can be transferred to miles if you have a Capital One Miles card. So the Spark Plus welcome offer can be considered 300k points while the Venture X is 100k points.
Spending requirements
The spending requirement for the welcome bonus on the Spark Plus is much higher than the Venture X.
With the Spark Plus you need to spend a total of $50,000 within the first 6 months. With the Venture X you need to spend only $10,000 within the first 6 months.
You can base your decision on your budget. If the Spark Plus spend requirement is too high for you ($50k), you may need to stick to the Venture X card ($10k).
Annual fees
The annual fee is higher on the Venture X card, at $395. The Spark Plus has a lower fee of $150.
The Venture X is a luxury card. So though it has a higher fee than the Spark Plus, it comes along with luxury benefits.
You may even be able to wipe out the $395 annual fee if you can make good use of the benefits on the Venture X.
Some benefits include:
- $300 travel credit each membership year when using the Capital One travel portal
$200 credit for vacation rentals booked within the first year- 10,000 anniversary points
- Hertz President’s circle status
- Priority pass lounge access
- TSA precheck or Global Entry
Again, check if you can afford the higher annual fee on the Venture X card, or if you can strategically wipe out the fee with the benefits.
Business versus personal
The Spark Plus is a business card and the Venture X is a personal card.
But keep in mind, even if you don’t have an LLC or Corp, you still can apply for the business card using your personal information. You can get instructions here.
Conclusion
Those are the main differences between the Capital One Spark Plus and the Venture X cards to keep in mind to help you decide which card to try first.
You can compare the cards in detail side by side.
