The Freedom Family
As the Freedom Flex card made it’s appearance on September 14, Freedom Chase cards are now a group of three
1) Freedom,
2) Freedom Flex,
3) Freedom Unlimted.
You may be a cardholder of one of them and anticipating switching or applying for the new Freedom Flex. It’s well worth comparing the three cards to make a well-versed decision before going for the gold; not all that glitters is gold. The Freedom Flex may be fresh and enticing so let’s check out all aspects of it and compare it to it’s Chase Freedom buddy.

In Terms Of Card Rewards
The Freedom Unlimited has one less reward than the Freedom Flex. The Freedom Flex (and the Freedom) have 5% cashback at rotating categories which the Freedom Unlimited doesn’t have. But, Freedom Unlimited has 1.5% cashback on all purchases. In my opinion, it is more worthy than the Freedom Flex‘s 5% at rotating categories or 1% on all purchases. The rest of the rewards are practically the same; 5% on Chase travel and Lyft rides and 3% at restaurants and drugstores. So with rewards, I think the Freedom Unlimited comes in the first place as more rewarding.
In Terms Of Benefits
Freedom Flex has cell phone protection so you can pay your monthly cell phone bill card and be covered in case your phone is stolen or damaged. Other than that, Freedom and Freedom Unlimited top Freedom Flex with benefits including, Auto Rental Collision Insurance, Purchase Protection, Extended Warranty Protection, and if your card is approved for a credit limit of $5,000 or more then the benefits will also include Trip Cancellation / Interruption insurance
All three cards though include the DoorDash benefits (free DoorDash DashPass benefit for 3 months and a 50% discount for the next nine months membership).
So turns out, once again, that the Freedom Flex is lacking in benefits when compared to Freedom and Freedom Unlimited.
Conclusion
If you have the Freedom card, keep it instead of doing a product change to the Freedom Flex. The Freedom card has better benefits than the Freedom Flex and you don’t want to lose your privilege of owning the Freedom card; new applications are not being accepted for Freedom.
If you are new to the Freedom cards and want to apply for one of the three Freedom Chase cards, go for the Freedom Unlimited. It has the best rewards because of the 1.5% cashback and its also good benefits, better than the Freedom Flex does. If you want the benefit of cell phone protection then go with the Freedom Flex as that’s the only freedom card that includes the cell phone protection benefit.
The nice thing is that all cards have no annual fee so whatever you get from it is already worth it.
Happy choosing!
