Nowadays, many banks will free up your available credit limit the second you hit the “submit” button online.
Here is the full list of banks that will make your credit limit available immediately after payment and those which will not.
Amex
Your credit limit will usually be available immediately after payment.
Bank of America
Your credit limit will not be available until the payment clears.
Barclays
Your credit limit will not be available until the payment clears
Capital One
Your credit limit will usually be available immediately after payment.
Citi
If you pay by phone using a debit card your payment will usually be available immediately.
If you pay via ACH then it will sometimes be available immediately and sometimes not.
Chase
Your credit limit will usually be available immediately after payment.
Discover
Your credit limit will not be available until the payment clears.
Wells Fargo
Your credit limit will usually be available immediately after payment (not new accounts)
Please note that even the banks listed above where your credit limit is available immediately after payment, it may be different if it is your first time making a payment to that bank.
