Update: PointsYeah now offers free hotel awards search as well
A few months ago I posted a review of Point.me. Since then, many followers have messaged me that they’ve used it multiple times and it really helped them find good award tickets easily.
But one of the biggest cons of Point.me is that they charge money. It’s not that expensive, it’s just $5 for a 48 hour pass (you get your first 3 searches free). But $5 is still $5.
So I’m happy that a new kid showed up on the block recently, called PointsYeah.
What is PointsYeah?
PointsYeah is similar to Point.me. You can search for an award flight just like on Expedia but instead of searching flights based on cash it searches it based on points.
How much does PointsYeah cost?
PointsYeah is completely free to use! And the owner told me he plans to always keep it free. He is going to charge a small membership fee for advanced features but the basic version will always stay free!
Does PointsYeah search all airlines?
As of now, PointsYeah only searches the following 17 airlines:
- AeroMexico Club Premier
- Air Canada Aeroplan
- Air France / KLM Flying Blue
- Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan
- American Airlines AAdvantage
- Avianca Lifemiles
- Delta SkyMiles
- Emirates Skywards
- Etihad Guest
- Frontier Airlines Miles
- Jetblue True Blue
- Qantas Points
- Spirit Airlines Miles
- TAP Miles&Go
- United Airlines MileagePlus
- Virgin Australia Velocity
- Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
It works impressively fast! Much faster than Point.me.
But Point.me searches many more airlines. Point.me searches over 100 airlines while PointsYeah, as noted above, searches only 17. The more airlines searched the better chance you have to find the best option available.
PointsYeah does have many unique features (besides that it’s free) that make it worth looking into. Let’s check them out.
Multi dates search
On PointsYeah you can search for award flights using flexible dates. This is great if you don’t care which exact day you fly but rather want to find the best deal within a few day range. You can click on Multi dates search and get results within a 3 day range.
Price alerts
This is a very unique and great feature.
You can set alerts to be notified when an award booking becomes available at a certain amount of points.
This is super useful as not only does it make it easy to watch a flight and know before anyone else that the award ticket is available at the lower tier, but you can also track an award flight that you already booked to know when the price drops so that you can cancel it and rebook (most airlines have no cancellation fees for award booking).
You can have up to 3 alerts set up at a time. Each date you track is counted as a separate alert. So if you want to track a 3 date range (multi dates search) then it will be counted as 3 separate alerts.
You can search all NYC airports at once
One very frustrating thing about Point.me is that you cannot search all NYC airports at once. PointsYeah fixed that and they do allow to search all three NYC airports. So that makes it much easier to search when flying out of NYC.
See transfer bonuses displayed
PointsYeah keeps track and displays whenever there is a transfer bonus available. For example, for my search for a flight from NYC to Tel Aviv they are showing me that there is currently a 20% transfer bonus from Capital One when transferring points to Virgin Atlantic.
This makes it super easy to see at a glance what your best options are.
In conclusion, I would use both
I very much like what I’m seeing at PointsYeah. It definitely has many very unique features. The only downside is that as of now they are searching a lot fewer airlines than Point.me (they are slowly expanding the airline list and just recently added two more airlines).
As of now I would still use both in order to ensure I’m getting the best deal. Point.me has more airlines. And PointsYeah has many other unique features worth utilizing (as mentioned above).
It’s also important to note that it seems that PointsYeah is using a slightly different method of pulling data from airlines than Point.me. There have been times that United was down for Point.me but not for PointsYeah. So in either case, it’s best to do the search on both just in case one is missing something that the other is not.
