What is Curve?
Curve is an actual credit card that allows you to link all your credit cards or debit cards to one physical card.
Curve is a drop similar to Paypal Key. Paypal Key gives you a virtual card that you can use when you need to use a credit card. The funds are taken out of your designated place; your Paypal account, credit card, or bank account.
Curve is a lot bigger and better than that.
Curve is an actual credit card that allows you to link all your credit cards or debit cards to one physical card. You can use it to make in-store or online purchases. Swipe, like you’d do with any card. Or you can add your Curve card to your Apple pay, Google pay or Samsung pay.
The idea of Curve is that you walk around with only one credit card in your wallet – Curve .
At any time, you can use the mobile app to switch which cards should be charged when purchasing something with your physical Curve card.
Besides for the convenience of a slim wallet, Curve offers rewards and benefits that you can get on top of whatever credit card rewards you get from the card being charged for the purchases.
It’s a win-win, whichever way I look at it. That’s if the US version will be the same as the current UK version. We’ll go with the assumption that it will but stay open for surprises or unmet expectations.
Curve rewards
Curve will be offering 1% cashback on all purchases for the first 6 months of your card account.
No caps. No limits.
That’s in addition to the rewards you earn from the credit card that is charged.
Curve is having a promotion which if you get to be from the first 100 people on the Curve waiting list, you will get 10% cashback on all purchases for the first 6 months on up to $1,000. When you get yourself on to the waiting list, you get a referral link to share with friends and family. Every time your referral link is used, you get bumped up 50 spaces in the waiting list.
As of Monday August 8th, 2021 at 3:30PM, the waiting list was 14,389 people long. It’ll be difficult getting to the top 100 places.
Go back in time - crazy good feature
Curve has an amazing feature called Go Back In Time.
With this feature, you can switch a charge from one credit card to the next for up to 30 days after the transaction was made.
Let’s say you set your Curve card to charge your Sapphire Preferred card but you later decide you would rather charge your Citi Premier card. With Curve, you can go ahead and switch the charge. The way it works in the UK is that Curve refunds your card and then recharges the new card you choose.
This feature is superb! Thanks Stephen Pepper from Frequent Miler for pointing out the following point.
Let’s say you signed up for a card and need to spend a lot of money to reach a welcome bonus. You’re waiting for a new credit card to come by mail. But you also have an impending large transaction to make, before your new card comes. Without Curve, your only option is making the transaction using whatever card you have on hand, and losing out on using your new card for it. But what if you want to use that transaction towards your welcome bonus spending requirements for the new card? With Curve, you proceed with the transaction on Curve. When your new card comes in the mail, all you have to do is switch the charge to your new card and get to use it towards your spending requirements. How cool is that?
Go Back In Time is also great for when your partner or spouse is not into rewards or points. Instead of constantly training or upsetting your partner or spouse with talks of which credit card to use in which store, give them a Curve card. They use Curve for all their purchases. When you have time throughout the month, all you have to do is go into the app and move around purchases from the credit card charged to the credit cards that’ll get you the most points.
It may take a bit of time but it’s once and you’re done till the next month. And your spouse can happily shop without being confused and driven crazy trying to please you by figuring out which card to use when.
But please note, in order for this plan to work, we need Curve to forward the transactions under the proper rewards category. With PayPal Key, transactions do get forwarded with the proper reward categories. With Curve, I’m not sure if transactions will be forward in the proper reward category. I hope it will (I kinda doubt it).
Another great way to use this feature is to buy yourself another billing cycle before you need to pay your bill. You can spread out your billing statements neck to neck one with each other. Right before your first billing statement is due you go ahead and refund the charge to another card which just had its new cycle popup. Effectively, you can get another 45-60 days until that statement will be due. That’s getting you another 45-60 days of interest-free money!
Conclusion
I personally am very excited that Curve is coming to the USA.
Curve will be good. It will lighten up your wallet. You won’t have to stop and think before making every transaction. You’ll be able to swipe your Curve card and think later, over your Curve app and over your tea, about which card to move the charge to. Your spouse will be happier to use your credit cards (gasp?!). You’ll get double rewards, once on Curve and once on the second card you use.

I signed up for it and now I see it on my credit report, which makes my average much lower. Is it supposed to be this way?
