What are your greatest hesitations when you apply for a credit card? I think it’s safe to say that the hard credit pull done by the creditors when you apply for a card is what makes you think twice before going for a new card.
When you apply for a card, the creditor checks your credit to verify whether they are willing to approve you for the card or not. This is done in the form of a hard pull on your credit report and has a slight negative affect on your credit score. So just by applying for a card, your credit is already affected by the credit check.
Now what if I tell you that you can apply for a card and get a 100% approval for the card before the bank actually does a hard pull to your credit? That’s an awesome package deal and I’m sure one many of you would fall for.
Let’s explore the cards that will not perform a hard credit check before you are 100% approved for the card.
American Express personal cards
Currently, all Amex personal cards are running under a feature called “Apply With Confidence”. You can now get a 100% guaranteed approval for any Amex personal card with only a soft pull (a soft pull has no impact on your credit score). Only once you’re approved and agree to accept the approval will Amex pull your credit with a hard pull.
When applying for any personal Amex credit card, Amex will not do a hard pull on your credit report until they 100% guarantee that you will be approved. Once you’re approved you can choose to accept the card. Only once you choose to proceed, will Amex do a hard pull on your credit report*.

The GM Cards
The GM cards are issued via Goldman Sachs Bank. The bank will only do a soft pull when you apply for these cards.
They will tell you if you are approved for the card or not and for which credit limit you are approved for. Only once you accept the approval will they do a hard pull. At that point, they’ll usually pull your Transunion credit report.
Apple Card
The Apple Card will also do only a soft pull when you apply for the card and will only pull your credit once you accept the approval.
PayPal card
The PayPal Cashback MasterCard will also do only a soft pull when you apply for the card and will only pull your credit once you accept the approval.
Conclusion
Not always in life do we get to try something and then have a choice of pulling back. Applying for a card under a soft pull and having the choice of backing out in case you’re informed your application will be getting declined, is a huge perk in the credit card industry.
Enjoy it with the Amex personal cards, the card_name and card_name, and the Apple Card.
*The new application experience is currently available for individuals applying for a U.S. Personal Card via HelpMeBuildCredit, at AmericanExpress.com/us/credit-cards, or by calling American Express, and is not available if you apply for a Card after you log into an existing Card Member Account.
