Today Chase released a new limited-time welcome bonus on all three Southwest Personal credit cards. You can earn up to 80,000 points! Earn 50,000 points after $2,000 spent within the first three months. Plus, earn an additional 30,000 points after you spend a total of $10,000 within the first 9 months.
The Perfect Time To Earn A Southwest Companion Pass
Who wouldn’t want to earn a free Southwest companion pass for a year, right?
You can, once you earn 125,000 Southwest points within a calendar year. That’ll get you a one-year Southwest companion pass to use to add your spouse or friend onto the same Southwest ticket you purchase for yourself, for free.
It shouldn’t be that difficult to get a total of 125,000 points because the welcome offer points are included, which already brings it up to 80,000.
Then, while you can’t open an additional personal Southwest card, you can open an additional Southwest business card and use that offer towards the total too. Check out the offers for the business cards:
Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Card ($199 annual fee). Earn 70,000 points after $5,000 spent within the first 3 months. Plus, earn an additional 30,000 points after $25,000 spent within the first 6 months.
Southwest Business Premier ($99 annual fee). Earn 60,000 points after $3,000 spent within the first 3 months.
There goes another 60,000 – 100,000 points, which will bring you way above 125,000 points.
Now, why is it the best time to earn the companion pass? The usual duration of the pass is one full year plus the remaining of the year you earned it. For example, if you earned the pass in June of 2020 you will get the pass until the end of 2021 (1.5 years). In our case, because you most likely will earn the pass at the beginning of next year 2021 (after you earn a total of 125,000 points), you will be able to use the pass unlimitedly until the end of 2022. You’ll end up earning almost a two-year duration of free companion travel!
