Huge! 15% Discount On Delta Award Booking As A New Benefit On Delta Cards – Here Is What You Need To Know

- Feb 8, 2023 Credit Card Info, Travel0 comments

Last week, Amex introduced a new and exciting benefit to the Delta cards. Cardholders get a 15% discount when booking an award flight on Delta using Delta SkyMiles!

This is a great feature and it makes having a Delta card grand, especially if you fly Delta often.

15% off is nothing to sneeze at. You get 15% back on points, which means an award flight for 85,000 points can cost you only 72,250 points.

That’s a big deal!

Which Delta cards are eligible

The following cards have the 15% discount:

American Express Gold Delta ($99, waived 1st year)

American Express Platinum Delta ($250)

Delta SkyMiles Reserve Amex Card ($550)

Delta SkyMiles Gold Business American Express Card ($99, waived 1st year)

Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business American Express Card ($250)

Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business American Express Card ($550)

The Delta cards have new, limited-time offers so now is a good time to apply for a card. If you’re instantly approved, you can head straight to book an award flight and get the 15% discount.

How to get the 15% discount

  1. Make sure your Delta SkyMiles number is linked to your Delta credit card (if it’s not linked, contact Amex to link it)
  2. Log in to your Delta account and search for Award Travel by selecting “Shop with Miles”
  3. Select an eligible flight. When you get to check out, you will see the miles discount applied for your itinerary

Some good data points regarding the 15% discount

  • The terms and conditions state that you need to use your Amex Delta card to pay the taxes and fees in order to get the 15% discount. But in fact, you don’t need to use your Delta card. You actually don’t even need to use an Amex card and you will still get the discount
  • If you book award flights for a group and then cancel the reservations for some of you, the rest will still get the cheaper price. This is also true if the primary cardholder cancels their part of the reservation
  • You get the 15% discount even if you make a booking for someone else (someone who is not on your account) despite terms and conditions saying otherwise
  • Discounts are only for Delta flights. Adding a single partner segment removes the discount completely
