Expiring! Have An Amex Platinum Card? Use Your Dell And Saks Expiring Bi-Annual Credits ASAP

- Dec 14, 2023 Credit Card Info0 comments

If you are the card owner of any of personal Platinum card or card_name, then there are a couple of credits expiring end of 2023 that you should be aware of: a credit at Saks Fifth Avenue for the personal cards and a credit at Dell for the business card.

Card_name has a $100 Saks Fifth Avenue credit and card_name has a $400 Dell credit. Each credit is split in two. One half of each respective credit can be used for the first half of the year (between January and June), and the other half can be used the second part of the year (between July and December).

That means that a $50 credit at Saks Fifth Avenue is expiring at the end of December on the personal cards, and a $200 credit at Dell on the business card. Now is the time to use it before it goes!

$400 Dell credit - Amex Platinum Business card

The Dell credit on card_name works as follows:

You are eligible for $200 on Dell purchases between the months of January and June, and an additional $200 between the months of July and December for a total of $400 per year.

Now is your last chance to make use of the $200 eligible for you until the end of December. Once January 1st comes around, $200 is gone and a new cycle will start, in which you can only use $200 that’s available from January to June.

How can the $200 Dell credit be used?

The $200 Dell credit is simple. Just buy any item other than a Dell gift card and you’ll be eligible for reimbursement by American Express. First, start a shopping portal like Rakuten for extra cashback on your purchase, click the portal’s link to activate cashback and to be redirected to Dell’s website, then purchase anything you like using card_name. You’ll receive your reimbursement within 3-7 business days automatically. There’s no need to take any extra action on your part.

Warning

Remember to enroll in this benefit before you make the purchases. You can enroll in your Amex online account or by phone.

Tips and tricks for Dell Credits

  • You don’t need to spend the full $200 to be reimbursed. A $50 purchase or a $250 purchase are both eligible for reimbursement, but the maximum you can get back is $200 in six months for each Business Platinum card
  • You can spread your $200 credit across multiple purchases
  • Dell allows you to split payment during checkout for up to three payment sources, so if you have multiple Business Platinum cards, you can buy an expensive item and split the payment for up to $200 reimbursement on each card
  • Buying Xbox gift cards for resale is a popular way to cash out your credits. Resale rates are typically around 80%, so a $200 Dell credit can become $160 in cash after selling the gift cards
  • If you buy more than six of the same item within a year, Dell may flag your account as a reseller and make it harder to order anything in the future, so keep track of what you’re ordering
  • Don’t wait until the last business day of December to purchase, because American Express uses the charge post date rather than the purchase date for reimbursement. That means a purchase on December 31st may be posted on January 1 and count against your next cycles credit.

$100 Saks Fifth Avenue credit - Amex Platinum

card_name cards (all flavors) have a $100 Saks Fifth Avenue credit that works as follows:

You are eligible for $50 on Saks Fifth Avenue purchases between the months of January and June, and an additional $50 between the months of July and December.

How can the $50 Saks credit be used?

Unlike Dell, Saks Fifth Avenue has physical stores in multiple major cities, so you can use the credit in person in addition to using it online.

In Person

You can buy anything at a Saks Fifth Avenue store with a Platinum card and automatically get up to $50 cashback from American Express within 3-7 business days after purchase. Saks has a list of all physical locations on its website. Unlike Saks online purchases, when you go in-store you can buy Saks gift cards and still receive the reimbursement.

Online

Start a shopping portal like Rakuten for extra cashback on your purchase, click the portal’s link to activate cashback and to be redirected to Saks Fifth Avenue website, then purchase anything you like (except for a Saks gift card) with card_name. You’ll receive your reimbursement within 3-7 business days automatically. There’s no need to take any extra action on your part.

Note that Saks Fifth Avenue no longer offers free shipping on purchases under $100. So in order for your order to be completely free, you will have to make a purchase for less than $50 to leave room for shipping fees.

Also note, only purchases at Saks Fifth Avenue are eligible, not purchases at Saks Off Fifth (but as explained above, you can buy Saks Off Fifth gift cards in a physical Saks Fifth Avenue location and later user the gift cards to purchase stuff at Saks Off Fifth).

Warning

Remember to enroll in this benefit before you make the purchases. You can enroll in your Amex online account or by phone.

Tips and tricks for Saks Credits

  • Pay special attention that Saks Off Fifth is a different store than Saks Fifth Avenue, and you won’t be reimbursed for any purchases at Saks Off Fifth whether online or in-store
  • You can spread your $50 credit across multiple purchases
  • When you shop in-store, Saks will allow you to split payment during checkout with as many cards as you like, so if you have multiple Platinum cards you can buy an expensive item and split the payment for up to $50 reimbursement on each card
  • Buying Saks gift cards at a physical store for resale is a popular way to cash out your credits. Resale rates are typically around 80%, so a $50 Saks credit can become $40 in cash after selling the gift cards. Note that online gift card purchases will not be reimbursed
  • Don’t wait until the last business day of December to purchase because American Express uses the charge post date rather than the purchase date for reimbursement. That means a purchase on December 31st may post on January 1 and count against your second half of the year credits
