With the current chaos going on in airports, many travelers are having their luggage either lost by the airline or delayed. A few weeks ago we discussed credit card coverage offered by credit cards for lost luggage. This week we will discuss credit card coverage for delayed luggage.
What's delayed baggage insurance?
Baggage delay insurance is coverage for items that you need importantly but do not have them due to your luggage being delayed. Examples are clothing, diapers, cell phone chargers, etc. You can go ahead and buy new ones of these items and later get reimbursed from the credit card for the items bought.
Expenses need to be reasonable
Because your baggage is delayed doesn’t mean you can go on a free shopping spree. You will need to give a reasonable explanation as to why you needed the items bought. There’s nothing wrong with saying I don’t wear anything less than a pair of $100 slippers. But if you’re going to buy 10 undershirts when your luggage is delayed for only one day then they might say go to a doctor to check out your sweat problem…
Coverage by law
It’s good to know that even without coverage from a credit card, by law, airlines need to reimburse you for up to $3,500 if your luggage was delayed on flights within the U.S. and $1,780 for international flights.
